L’insegnamento ha per obiettivi
- l’acquisizione di tutti gli elementi grammaticali fondamentali della lingua hindi standard usata nella comunicazione scritta e orale in contesti formali e informali, nonché di un bagaglio lessicale adeguato per una comunicazione, orale e scritta, su argomenti familiari, di interesse personale o riguardanti la vita quotidiana (famiglia, lavoro, attualità).
- approfondire la conoscenza della storia della lingua e della sua collocazione nel panorama linguistico del subcontinente indiano.
- mettere gli/le studenti in grado di tradurre e analizzare testi di vario tipo e produrre testi in forma orale e scritta, cogliendo e utilizzando riferimenti culturali e modalità espressive caratteristiche della cultura indiana veicolata dalla lingua hindi.
- Gli strumenti d'apprendimento utilizzati consentiranno di sviluppare la capacità di conseguire autonomamente nuove conoscenze e competenze, anche attraverso l’uso di corpora elettronici e lessici specialisti a stampa o in rete.
the course aims to
- give all the basic grammatical elements of MSH used in written and oral communication in formal and informal contexts, as well as a lexical knowledge suitable to a written and oral communication on familiar topics, related to persona interests or to everyday life (family, work, current events)
- give a deeper knowledge of the history of Hindi language and of the position of MSH in the South Asian linguistic context.
- enable students to translate and analyze different kinds of texts, and to produce written and oral texts utilizing cultural references and idioms and expressions typical of the Indian culture expressed in MSH
- The learning tools that will be utilized will foster the development of the ability to independently achieve new knowledge and skills, also through the use of electronic corpora and lexicons in print or online.

CONOSCENZA E CAPACITÀ DI COMPRENSIONE: le e gli studenti sapranno comprendere e produrre brevi testi in hindi standard. Riusciranno ad affrontare molte delle situazioni che si possono presentare viaggiando in una zona dove si parla hindi. Riusciranno a descrivere, collegando semplici espressioni, esperienze e avvenimenti. Riusciranno a scrivere testi semplici e coerenti su argomenti noti o di loro interesse.
CAPACITÀ DI APPLICARE CONOSCENZA E COMPRENSIONE, AUTONOMIA DI GIUDIZIO e ABILITÀ COMUNICATIVE: sapranno leggere e analizzare i testi in hindi letti a lezione; nell’analisi e commento dei testi, faranno uso degli strumenti critici e bibliografici presentati a lezione
CAPACITÀ DI APPRENDIMENTO: sapranno utilizzare alcuni strumenti bibliografici (manuali, dizionari, grammatiche ed enciclopedie) sulle lingue neo-indo-arie, con particolare attenzione alla lingua hindi.
The level reached at the end of this course is A2 / B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. At the end of this course:
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: students will be able to understand and produce short texts in MSH. They will be able to cope with many situations that can be faces when travelling in an area where Hindi is spoken. They will be able to describe experiences and events connecting simple sentences. They will be able to write simple and congruent texts on known and selected topics.
APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING, MAKING JUDGEMENTS and COMMUNICATION SKILLS: students will be able to read and analyse the texts presented during the course; they will use the critical notions and the bibliographical tools, presented in the course, in the analysis of and commentary on the texts
LEARNING SKILLS: students will familiarize with bibliographic tools (handbooks, dictionaries, grammars and reference works) on the NIA languages, specifically on Hindi.

Modalità di insegnamento
Il corso è strutturato in 36 ore frontali. La docente assegna parte dei testi consigliati o suggerisce letture integrative, in preparazione delle lezioni della settimana successiva. È richiesto il completamento degli esercizi assegnati per poter accedere all’esame finale.
The course is structured in 36 hours of academic teaching in a traditional classroom setting. Texts distributed by the instructor must be prepared in advance. Homework must be completed in order to take the final exam.- Oggetto:
Modalità di verifica dell'apprendimento
I risultati dell’apprendimento verranno verificati attraverso una prova scritta e una prova orale (entrambe obbligatorie per il superamento del corso) che hanno obiettivi distinti. La prova scritta può essere sostenuta a ogni appello scritto (uno per ogni sessione di esame). La prova scritta comporterà la traduzione di un brano dalla hindi in italiano e il voto sarà considerato valido per due anni, calcolati dalla data dell’esame. Lo scritto avrà valore di esonero interno e solo l’esame orale verrà verbalizzato.
Le persone che superano con esito positivo la prova scritta sono ammesse alla prova orale. Chi non avesse frequentato può concordare un programma sostitutivo. L'esame può essere sostenuto in lingua inglese o hindi.
Nella prova orale le/gli studenti dovranno dimostrare di essere in grado di descrivere e padroneggiare le regole sulla morfologia e sintassi grammaticale impartite nel corso. Dovranno inoltre conoscere il contenuto dei testi previsti per l’esame, essere in grado di leggerli e tradurli correttamente. Una domanda riguarderà la storia della hindi standard moderna.
Il voto è espresso in trentesimi. Nella determinazione del voto finale si seguiranno i seguenti criteri:
prova scritta 27-30 - votazione massima complessiva 30 e lode
prova scritta 24-26 - votazione massima complessiva30
prova scritta 21-23 - votazione massima complessiva 28
prova scritta 18-20 - votazione massima complessiva 26.
A written and an oral exam (both compulsory) assess the learning outcomes. The written exam verifies the acquisition of grammatical rules, through a translation of a simple text. There are three written sessions per year. Those who successfully pass the written test can take the oral test. A student who passed the written test must pass the relative oral test within two years (since the date of the written test). Students who do not attend the course are requested to contact the instructor before taking the exam. It is also possible to take the exam in English or Hindi.
In the oral test, students must demonstrate knowledge of the rules of the grammar taught in the course. They must also know the contents of the texts provided for the exam, be able to read and translate them properly, and answer to questions that activate conversations. One question will deal with the history of Modern Standard Hindi. The oral test assesses and evaluates the level of oral comprehension reached by the students.
Marks are in /30. The final mark will be issued as follows:
written test 27-30 – final mark maximum 30 cum laude
written test 24-26 - final mark maximum 30
written test 21-23 - final mark maximum 28
written test 18-20 - final mark maximum 26.

1) Approfondimenti sulle strutture grammaticali e sintattiche della lingua hindi.
2) Lettura, traduzione e commento linguistico e grammaticale di testi moderni e contemporanei (i testi in questione saranno indicati durante il corso).
3) Elementi di storia della lingua hindi con particolare attenzione per la sua evoluzione fra fine ottocento e primo Novecento.
1) Hindi Language - Intermediate level: morphological and syntactical structures.
2) Translation and commentary of modern and contemporary Hindi prose texts.
3) Topics in history of the Hindi language. Focus on the formation of MSH (19th-20th century)
